Confucius Institute to launch art exhibition at EthnicA Christchurch

The Confucuis Institute will launch one of its most important exhibitions and research programmes on Harold Wilfred Youren, a peace advocate dedicated to opening dialogue between China and the West in the 1950's. He amassed a significant collection of art works which were gifted to him during his travels and which he used to illustrate his public talks on Chinese art and history. Three examples of his collection will be featured at EthnicA Christchurch.

The Office of Ethnic Affairs was proud to support the Canterbury Women’s Business Association project to host the International Women’s day celebrations on 8 March in Christchurch. The Canterbury Women’s Business Association project started last year and aims to encourage small business and entrepreneurship amongst its women participants through the development of skills in arts and culture.

New Zealand's ethnic community takes to the world stage

New Zealand on the world stage

The Director of the Office of Ethnic Affairs, Mervin Singham has recently returned from attending two United Nations' forums in Europe: the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) and the Alliance of Civilisations Global Forum.

He says participation on a world stage shows the strength and maturity of New Zealand's diverse communities.

The Office of Ethnic Affairs held the 2nd Korean Non Government Organisation Forum in Auckland on Saturday 9 March in collaboration with the Community Operations team of Department of Internal Affairs and with generous support from AUT University.

The forum was held to build the governance and management capacity of Korean organisations and community groups.
