New publication to improve response during an emergency

A new publication for  the civil defence emergency management (CDEM) sector will help improve community readiness and response during an emergency event.  Published by the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management, the document has been developed to address an identified gap in the response to the Canterbury earthquakes.

The final day for submitting  a Community Organisation Grants Scheme application this year is 31 July 2013. Non-profit community groups are invited to apply to the scheme for projects and community-based social services. Visit www.communitymatters.govt.nz for full details about funding criteria and how to apply online.

World Refugee Day celebrations in Christchurch

Audience at the World Refugee Day celebrations in Christchurch

Despite chilly weather conditions, there was a huge turnout for the World Refugee Day celebrations in Christchurch on 9 July. The celebrations had been deferred from 20 June in view of the snowstorms. Hagley Community College, supported by Pegasus Health and the Canterbury Refugee Council, hosted the event to celebrate the contribution refugees make to the community.
