To vote in the 2013 Local Elections, you need to be enrolled on the electoral roll.

Voting papers are mailed out to people who have enrolled and need to be filled in, and mailed back by 12 noon on Saturday 12 October. Everyone who was correctly enrolled by Friday 16 August 2013 will get their voting papers for the 2013 local elections sent to them in the mail.

On 20 and 21 August, the 2013 Wellington Conference on Contemporary China was hosted by the New Zealand Contemporary China Research Centre.

History of Chinese immigration now online

The documented history of Chinese immigration to New Zealand from the 1880s, including their requirement to pay a poll tax, has been put together by a team from Archives New Zealand with the assistance of the Office of Ethnic Affairs. An inventory of records of Chinese immigrants held by Archives New Zealand is now available in the Australian e-journal Chinese Southern Diaspora Studies (volume 6).

Recognition for Hamilton Settlement Services

Hamilton settlement services are getting International recognition again. The United Kingdom Speaker of the House of Commons, Rt Hon John Bercow, took time in a brief visit to New Zealand to head to Hamilton. He was interested in the settlement journey of the Somalis and the recent arrival of Afghani interpreters.
