Settling In Funding Round Grants allocated

Settling In grants totalling $361, 172 have been awarded to 33 groups throughout New Zealand to support their work with ethnic and migrant communities, the Director of the Office of Ethnic Affairs Berlinda Chin announced today.

“These grants are used for projects that directly assist recent migrants and refugees to better settle in New Zealand,” Berlinda Chin said.

Christchurch youth leader receives an honourable mention award

Shawn Kurian Thomas, 20 year old young leader who participated in the Christchurch Youth Leadership programme, recently received an honourable mention award from The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The two organisations invited youth from all over the world to submit original and creative videos focusing on the themes of PLURAL+, a youth-produced video festival which encourages young people to explore migration, diversity, and social inclusion, as well as to share their creative vision with the world. Since 2009 over 400 entries from 63 countries have been submitted. Winning videos have been screened in dozens of festivals, and broadcast on television networks around the world.
