United Nations report on racial discrimination

A draft report on New Zealand’s performance under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination has been released for public comment.

New Zealand is one of 177 countries that are a party to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The Convention commits State Parties to the elimination of racial discrimination, affirms the necessity to adopting national measures to secure the effective recognition and observance of the principles set out in the human rights treaty.

Shakti is Celebrating its Milestone 20th Anniversary

On Thursday 20 August over 100 people from wider communities, services providers, government agencies and representatives from Shakti branches across the country as well as Sydney and Melbourne joined Shakti’s 20th anniversary celebration at Mt Eden War Memorial Hall, Auckland. The event was opened and blessed by local iwi and followed by a line-up of dynamic speakers including leading professionals in the family violence sector. Attendees were inspired by a documentary video showing the remarkable 20 years journey of Shakti.

In 2013, the United Nations published a World Happiness Report which examined data from the Gallup World Poll to determine the level of happiness for participating countries. At that time New Zealand’s Happiness Ranking was 13th out of 156 countries.
