    The number of people living in New Zealand on census night 2013 was 4,242,048. This was 214,101 more than at the last census seven years ago.

    A third letter has been sent to approximately 180,000 households last week, with a message to remind people that taking part in the census is compulsory. Census forms are now overdue, but it’s not too late to take part.
