Minister's Update - August 2017

This is a good time of year to consider opportunities for governance roles. The Office of Ethnic Communities keeps a database of New Zealanders from ethnic communities who are suitably qualified to be considered for appointment to a number of government boards, committees and advisory groups. The nominations service seeks to increase ethnic representation in leadership and governance positions.

New Zealand’s ethnic diversity is one of our strengths and as a country we are extremely proud of our diversity. Governance positions offer an opportunity to contribute to the community and the economy as well as stepping up to leadership roles.

If you have, or anyone you know has, previous experience in regional or national governance roles or experience as a director of a medium to large enterprise, I urge you to get in touch with the Office of Ethnic Communities.

We have a fantastic pool of talent in New Zealand and it is so important that everyone has the opportunity to contribute.

Diwali celebrations will start soon and are an opportunity for our Indian communities to share India’s most-loved cultural festival with other New Zealanders. This is both a celebration of the traditions of Diwali and Indian culture as a whole.

Diwali is the Hindu festival of light and symbolises the triumph of light over darkness. It is a time of celebration in India and for Indians living abroad. It is a time of festivity, goodwill, reflection and renewal.

Best wishes
Judith Collins
