New Zealand is one of the most culturally and ethnically diverse nations. The rapid increase in our ethnic diversity poses both challenges and opportunities across various sectors to maximize the benefits of diversity. Auckland University of Technology is a vibrant and diverse university that recognises that success is not defined by gender, gender identity, socio-economic backgrounds, ethnicity or disability. This year, Professor of Diversity, Dr Edwina Pio has been appointed as University Director of Diversity. In the new role, Edwina will work to enhance effectiveness and understanding in the crucial areas of advancing diversity and inclusiveness for extensive, vibrant and dynamic relationships with stakeholders. This appointment underscores the promise for learning and discovery that promotes the wellbeing and flourishing of people and their environments. Edwina Pio is New Zealand’s first Professor of Diversity, a Fulbright alumnus and recipient of a Duke of Edinburgh fellowship. Edwina is a thought leader and knowledgeable interpreter in the area of diversity in business, communities and education and her passion for interdisciplinary scholarship encompass the intersections of work, ethnicity, religion and pedagogy.
