United Nations report on racial discrimination

group consulting on a matter

A draft report on New Zealand’s performance under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination has been released for public comment.

New Zealand is one of 177 countries that are a party to the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. The Convention commits State Parties to the elimination of racial discrimination, affirms the necessity to adopting national measures to secure the effective recognition and observance of the principles set out in the human rights treaty.

Each country provides regular reports to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, which reviews countries’ compliance with the Convention.

The Ministry of Justice drafted the report in consultation with agencies on their respective areas of responsibility.

The report takes a direct approach in explaining issues New Zealand is facing and what is being done to address these issues.
