Visa processing moves online

Immigration New Zealand Auckland Central Visa Services counter services at 280 Queen Street are closing permanently 4 pm on Friday 21 December 2018.  There will be no drop box at this location.

This is because Immigration New Zealand is moving to a largely online model of visa processing, to make the process faster, more accurate and more consistent.

The Office of Ethnic Communities is not involved in this process, but would like to support members of our ethnic communities by providing information about these changes.

  • Visitor, student, work and family residence (partnership or dependent child of a New Zealander) visa applicants are encouraged to apply using our Immigration Online system via the Immigration New Zealand website. It's faster and easier to apply online. You can upload supporting documents and photographs and pay for your application online.
  • A drop box is available on the ground floor of 20 Amersham Way, Manukau between the hours of 7.30 am and 5.30 pm, and will remain open beyond 2018.  Please note that there is no public counter service in Manukau or in any other location.
  • All Immigration New Zealand forms and guides are available online and can be downloaded from the Immigration New Zealand website and can be printed if required. 
  • Applicants should refer to the Immigration New Zealand website for guidance on processing times and take these processing times into account and allow sufficient time for their visa application to be decided when making travel, study or work plans.
  • If you are unable to assist the applicant, please ask them to call the Immigration Contact Centre on 09 914 4100. The Immigration Contact Centre staff will help with enquiries, and can arrange translation assistance where English is a second language.
  • If urgent assistance is required, call the Immigration Contact Centre on 09 914 4100 and an appointment can be made with an Immigration Officer.  Applicants who have pre-purchased travel may not be regarded as ‘urgent’.
  • It is important that visa holders do not stay in New Zealand past the end date on their visa, and should make all efforts to ensure that they are in New Zealand lawfully. Visa holders need to give themselves enough time to obtain another visa if this option is available.
