The Halal Tourism and Hospitality Symposium was held on 21 November 2018. Over 100 people attended from various fields including academia, tourism and public service. The Office of Ethnic Communities was also represented.
When a board role becomes available, the Office of Ethnic Communities assists the appointing agency or Minister to find suitable candidates. Candidates who meet the criteria for the role are identified using our database and we make contact to confirm their interest in applying. In some cases interested candidates will be provided with the role details so that they can nominate themselves directly to the agency.
On 20 November 2018, the Auckland Regional Migrant Services (ARMS) held its annual general meeting at Auckland’s Fickling Convention Centre. The event was an opportunity for ARMS to showcase some of their 2018 highlights, share their new name, and their strategy going forward.
The sixth Japan Festival Wellington held 24 November 2018 had something for everyone – food, performances, art, workshops, poetry, and activities for kids.
On 15 November 2018, the Embassy of Hungary hosted an exhibition of art, titled ‘Double Bond’, by New Zealand-Hungarian artists. The exhibit explored the connection between the two countries using a range of genres including painting, photography and sculpture. The exhibition opening was celebrated with Hungarian dancing.
International Volunteer Day takes place each year on 5 December. Led by the United Nations, International Volunteer Day is an opportunity for volunteers and organisations to celebrate their efforts, share their values, and promote their work within communities.
